Graphic Designer – Central Penn College, Philadelphia, PA

Central Penn College is seeking a Graphic Designer to conceptualize, develop, design, and prepare original designs, layouts, and images within college brand standards for a wide variety of clients. Along with the Director of Marketing & Communications and other college department/division leaders, the designer determines technical specifications for projects in consultation with internal staff and external vendors. This position creates mockups and proofs in electronic and printed formats, makes revisions, prepares electronic files to meet technical requirements for print publishing, and creates original designs to illustrate communication concepts.

 

The ideal candidate will have an associate or bachelor’s degree in graphic design, a minimum of five years relevant experience or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and an attention to detail are required. Experience in higher education a plus.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Stay current to industry trends and maintain cutting edge design and advertising knowledge

  • Serves as a marketing project team member on numerous concurrent projects related to the recruitment of students and our visual identity                                                                                                                                                        

  • Work with the Director of Marketing & Communications and other college department/division leaders to ensure that a brand style and look is included throughout the creative process

  • Participate in conceptualization meetings designed to generate new ideas through discussion, and to develop these ideas into viable projects or promotions

  • Proofread artwork at all stages of production and make changes as necessary

  • Work with the Director of Marketing & Communications and other college department/division leaders; develop specific communications vehicles including direct mail pieces, newsletters, and advertisements

  • “Manage” the approval process for college publications and collateral marketing pieces

  • Develop and maintain standards for brand usage

  • Monitor brand usage for accuracy college wide

  • Maintain the MAC operating system and project archives

  • Provide photography services as needed

 

Job Requirements:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Minimum of five years of experience in creating highly effective design materials for an in-house creative department, ad agency or higher education institution

  • Demonstrated ability to produce from concept to product published materials including invitations, announcements, ads, brochures, catalogs, magazines and signage

  • A strong sense of artistic style and creative flair. Must be able to communicate ideas visually, verbally and in writing

  • Practical working knowledge of marketing and communications principles, with a strong emphasis on branding

  • Expert ability using Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop on Mac computers

  • Expert knowledge of the printing process and related production activities, including file preparation and output, prepress and print requirements

  • Excellent organization and time management skills with proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and to adjust to frequent changes in project priorities

  • Comfortable in a small, growing and rapidly changing environment

  • Excellent people skills – personable, positive, able to deal with challenges and issues

  • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently, following through on assignments with minimal direction/supervision
